Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the preparation of nursing students for graduation practical testing by in-depth qualitative analysis and provide basic data for developing effective learning, teaching, and evaluation methods and strategies for improving core nursing skills.

Methods: This study was conducted to understand the preparation process for the graduation practical testing of the nursing students and investigate the essence of life phenomena they experienced. Face-to-face interviews were performed with nursing students preparing for graduation and the results were analyzed based on Colaizzi's phenomenological study method that attempted to determine the clear meanings and summarize the phenomena.

Results: The topics deduced from this study were ¡°difficulties accepting graduation practical testing¡±, ¡°recognizing the need for the graduation practical test¡±, ¡°desire for clearer graduation practical tests¡±, ¡°enhanced confidence in core nursing skills¡±, and ¡°bonding developed by practicing with friends¡±.

Conclusion: Multidimensional studies are required to elevate student competencies and achievement levels by understanding the students who are preparing for the graduation practical test and by identifying and improving the teaching and evaluation methods for the students.
